What is FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI registration is mandatory compliance to open and to carry out a food business operation in India. A person can apply for different types of food registration license depending upon their business annual turnover. It is provided by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India constituted under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Eligibility Criteria for FSSAI Registration

Every person involved in food business is eligible to have FFSAI registration in India. Here are the people who can apply for FSSAI registration:

  • Food Manufacturers
  • Food storage units
  • Food packaging units
  • Food product retailers
  • Food product distributors and transporters
  • Wholesale seller
  • Online food business operator
  • Hotels or caterers
  • Raw material suppliers.

Other than that the annual turnover of the food business should not exceed by RS 12 lakhs to obtain basic food registration.

Procedure for basic Food Business Registration:

Here are the steps you can follow to obtain food registration in India:

  • Apply to the food and Safety Department.
  • Submit an application in Form A.
  • Applicant will get the registration certificate once the application has been accepted by the department.

The acceptance or rejection of the application is intimated by the department within the seven days from the date of submission. The registration certificate granted by the department contains the 14 digit registration along with the photograph of the applicant.

Fees structure for FSSAI registration in India:

  • FSSAI Basic Registration fees -Rs. 100 p.a.
  • FSSAI state license fees- 2000 to 5000 P.A
  • FSSAI Central License fees is Rs. 7500/- p.a.
